Adding Audio to Your Course Sites

In this podcast episode, we introduce new tools and suggest ways that you might use them in your courses. Voice Tools is a suite of tools that allows you to present content and communicate with your students using audio recordings within Blackboard. Using a simple interface, you and your students can record and listen to recordings without additional software.
The Wimba Voice Tools that facilitate presentation of content include:
- Voice Announcements,
- Voice Recorder,
- Voice Presentation.
Voice Tools that facilitate communication and collaboration include:
- Voice Email,
- Voice (discussion) Board,
- Voice Direct (chatroom),
- Wimba Podcaster.

This is the first part of our interview with Prof. Liege Motta of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. Prof. Motta has used discussion boards in Blackboard as part of her blended learning courses. In this segment, Prof. Motta talks about why and how she uses discussion boards as well as how she responds to students’ discussions and what kind of guidance she gives to her students. She also shares insights gained from observing students interact in discussion boards and the benefits she perceives in this activity.

Blended Learning-Tips from Roberta Kilkenny

In this second episode of our series on blended learning, we have invited professor Roberta Kilkenny of the Department of Africana & Puerto Rican/Latino Studies. Prof. Kilkenny teaches courses in Caribbean History and has been teaching them as blended courses for several years. In this interview with Shiao-Chuan Kung, she talks about why she redesigned her courses and offers advice to colleagues thinking about creating blended courses. For example, she recommends focusing on making materials accessible to all students, managing students expectations and giving smaller assignments that help students become familiar with the technology before they need to use it in a large assignment.

Blended Learning-Interview with Tony Picciano

This is the first of a series of podcast episodes that we are creating on blended learning. Many features of Blackboard can be used to teach blended learning courses. In this episode, Shiao-Chuan Kung talks to Professor Tony Picciano of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. Prof. Picciano also teaches at the Graduate Center and is currently the Interim Executive Officer for the PhD Program in Urban Education. He has written about and been involved in blended learning for over 10 years. His last publication in this area is a book called Blended Learning: Research Perspectives.
